As If Mornings Weren’t Bad Enough..

As I’m sitting here in my office this morning, I couldn’t help but think about all of the phone calls I have gotten over the past couple of days concerning morning sickness. It seems like quite a common topic with my pregnant clients and friends. Even as I was driving to my office this morning, my daughter called facing the same dilemma in her pregnancy. With her being my fourth call this week, I thought that it would be a common enough topic to interest you…

Fruits & Veggies – They Do A Body Good, Except When…

We are all told to “Eat your fruits and vegetables!” or “An apple a day keeps the doctor away!” It is recommended that we (especially women) are urged to eat 7-11 servings of fruits and vegetables daily, which is quite an undertaking. So, we head to the store and fill our baskets with lush fruits and beautiful vegetables, filled with the excitement of feeling good and being healthy.

The Dangers of Epidurals

A couple of million American women will get epidurals this year for the purpose of hopefully, obtaining a pain-free child birth.  American women are enticed by the media, prodded by the medical community, and encouraged by their peers to go for the pain-relief alternative of the century.

The purpose of this blog is to share with you that not every choice in child birth comes without a redemptive cost.  What is the fuss about, one might ask.  How dangerous can an epidural be?  Really?

Colostrum

I hear so many mothers ask these questions……. Is there any milk? Where is the Colostrum everyone is talking about? Is my baby going to starve because it’s only getting a few drops of milk at each feeding? I thought my milk was going to be white? I can’t feel anything coming out, why? Breastfeeding is natural, normal, intuitive, and instinctual, right? Hummm…………

Yummy recipes to increase milk production!

Making more milk seems to be an issue a lot of breastfeeding moms are concerned with. Some wonderful galactagogues (stimulants to encourage milk supply) can be found right in your own kitchen cupboards. OATMEAL, BREWERS YEAST, and FLAX SEED are wonderful “milk enhancers”.  Check out these recipes below. And by the way, you don’t have to be a nursing mom to eat these yummy recipes.

June is Home Safety Month

June is home safety month.  Here are some tips that you might be able to use with your curious toddlers and your foraging crawlers, as they hunt around the house looking for action.  To begin household safety precautions, you need to start by crawling around your home on your hands and knees.  I know it sounds crazy, but it is imperative to check your home from your baby’s perspective.  Nearly 70% of children who suffer accidental death from home accidents are four years old and under.  Some of these precautions might seem very obvious; however, they are the culprits that cause the most accidents that occur in the home.

Opening of Anticipation and Beyond’s new office

I am dedicated to making the birth and breastfeeding experience more joyful, less frightening, and a pleasant empowering memory.

It is quite amazing to me that we have taken such a worthy and heart-felt task such as labor and birth; and turned it unto such a mechanical main-streamed, medical-filled moment.

One never needs to compromise safety or health care, for a truly amazing birth memory.

The two worlds can come together as we serve women in Lynchburg, as Anticipation and Beyond spreads its wings and opens up a new office in Forest, VA.  I hope to educate and come along side of women from all spectrums of life in our area.

Breastfeeding and birth should be cherished and respected, as a gift and a blessing.

Many of you in Lynchburg have inspired me to open an office.  I hope I can enthusiastically encourage you.

Mothers hold our future.  Anticipation and Beyond Doula Services hopes to come along side of you with insight, guidance, and inspiration.  Thank you for letting me serve our community.
