What is a Doula?
Throughout time women have helped other women birth. A doula is a professional continuous support for a pregnant and birthing mother. A Doula never takes the place of the birthing mom's partner, the health care provider, midwife, or family. A doula is there to complement and encourage hospital staff, midwives, doctors, and family.
A birth doula understands the natural birth process and tries to encourage a birth with as few interventions as possible, knowing that it is the safest choice. A birth Doula never gives medical advice or performs medical tasks. However, a birth Doula can share her knowledge, experience, and a wide scope of resources that have been scientifically proven. This way a couple can make informed choices which will encourage a safe a gentle birth.
My Philosophy on Natural vs. Medicated Birth
The couple will be prepared to make educated, informative decisions surrounding their birth. If medication is needed for promoting labor, or to reduce pain, I will fully support and respect all your choices. After all, this is your birth, and I am here to serve you without any preconceived agenda. If a cesarean is needed, I will be right there alongside of you and your partner, if you are so inclined. The goal and desire of birth is to have a healthy baby and delighted mother. However the baby comes into the world, I am prepared and trained to serve you throughout the entire process.
